The spirit of Martha Wrennall came to Liz soon after she began visiting Bygone Times. She spoke in depth with Liz about her past and her wanderings around the old mill.
Her friend was a Mary Ann Baybutt with whom she worked at Grove Mill. The recently published book Grove Mill, Canal Mill and Botany Bay by local historian Arthur C Howell contains references to Martha and the spirits of Bygone Times.

During the last year or so Bygone Times has been operating regular haunted evenings with tours of Bygone itself. These evenings have proved to be quite popular with those interested in learning more about the spooky side of Bygone Times and it’s history. The most recent event took place on Saturday evening the 23rd February and proved to be an eye opener for more than one of the party assembled that evening.
It turns out that as they stood at the top of the stairs that leads down to an area known as bygone three, four different individuals all reported seeing the lower half of two apparitions walking along the isle. The view from the top of the stairs would not allow them to see a full figure, however each person reported the same story and also added that the sound of what they assumed to be clogs was also very evident.
There have been many instances of individual sightings at Bygone Times, but this late evening multiple sighting certainly opened the eyes of a few new believers!
Spooky or what!
